This weekend Ashtanga yoga workshop with Joey will consist of Mysore-style Ashtanga sessions each morning, followed by inspiring and informative technique workshops.
In the dynamic morning sequence the emphasis is on actions, movements and doing. The body is divided into parts and concentration is fragmentary moving from place to place. The process challenges inertia and contraction, it reveals tension and where we are holding on.
The restorative, in contrast to a dynamic series, allows the awareness to spread spontaneously and become non-localised, one becomes aware of, and rests within the feeling of wholeness and completeness. Doer-ship and techniques are abandoned, leaving one to rest in stillness and peace.
This class will focus on standing poses to clarify basic actions and directions of extension that improve alignment in asana. The body will be systematically divided part by part for the purpose of learning and creating space.
After an intensive weekend of dynamic yoga practice, the final class will allow time for stillness and resorption. Wilfully abandon the techniques used in dynamic practice and rest in supported poses to create gestures of surrender and openness in the body that facilitate relaxation. Once an atmosphere of stillness and introversion has been created, guided pranayama practice will lead you towards a profoundly peaceful state.
