Overview

We welcome you for a one-week retreat exploring practice with less of your day-to-day responsibilities. As spiritual practitioners, to dedicate some time, specifically for practice, is a very helpful, if not essential, way of keeping in touch with the essence of practice. On retreat we make time to be still, time to reflect on who we are when we step out of our usual roles, our usual habits; we allow ourselves a safe space to ask questions and perhaps explore different approaches to practice. Our intention is to create an environment where you can be at ease, both feeling supported to turn your attention inwards and and relaxed enough to make new connections with your fellow practitioners. We hope to leave you feeling inspired and with renewed inspiration for practice.

Our Approach

Our approach to teaching is to weave in alignment instruction, to allow you to learn more about connections between postures, understand your body-mind  better and find a balance between stability and flexibility, dynamism and passivity. We also hope these insights will help you to practice in a way which is functional and sustainable for the body, allowing for longevity in practice.
With three free afternoons, you will also have a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Salento, make friends, swim in the sea, be looked after by the fantastic chefs, explore the beautiful nearby towns (we love Lecce) and appreciate the friendliness of the locals.

The Centre

The centre is set in a peaceful spot inamongst olive groves and the site is also home to an organic farm, where much of the food you will eat is produced. The decor is charming and the shala boasts a beautiful wood floor and lots of natural light. The food provided is delicious, nutritious and plant-based. Chefs from different countries prepare foods from a variety of different world cuisines. Morning juice, brunch and and an evening meal are served daily. There are both outdoor and indoor eating areas (both in the shade), gardens to explore, as well as the pool where you can relax, soaking up the sun or resting in the shade.

 

The Area

In the local vicinity are many beaches and swimming spots (around 30 minutes to one hour away, depending where you choose to go) and the centre will arrange taxis, car hire or you can hop on the train. Nearby towns also provide the chance to explore, buy gifts, soak up the friendliness of the South.

Schedule

Arrival day

Our arrival day is Saturday 4th July. There will be a welcome session from 4pm-6pm.

Afternoon workshops

During the week there will be three afternoon workshops from 4pm-6:30pm, these will be on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Daily Schedule

7:30am – guided meditation

8am – mysore-style self-practice

10-10:30 brunch is served

(free time)

4 – 6:30pm – afternoon workshop (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday)

7-7:30 – evening meal is served

Closing Session

On Friday 10th July, there will be closing session after brunch from 11:30-1pm.

Leaving Day

Leaving day is Saturday 11th July, there will no classes on leaving day. You will be expected to vacate your room by 11am, although reception can look after your luggage and you will still have access the pool and showers after this time.

 

Suitability

As there is no beginners class on this retreat, all students must be confident practicing in a mysore-style class, able to practice independently for around half primary series. (We don’t expect poses to be perfect, modification is fine, but we expect you to know the order of the poses and be reasonably confident of the transitions between poses. This is to allow us to spend plenty of time with each student).

Single, double and triple rooms are available with some with shared bathrooms, others with private bathrooms. Please note, spaces are limited so it’s a good idea to book early.

Booking

Bookings are taken by Yoga in Salento; they will ask for a deposit of 30% of your accomodation fee. The teaching fee is to be paid directly to Joey and Rachel by bank transfer, at least one month prior to the retreat. Travel

Getting There

If you’re travelling from the UK and choosing to fly, there are direct flights from Manchester, Liverpool and London airports to Brindisi or flights from elsewhere with a short stopover.

If you are wishing to travel to Salento with a smaller carbon footprint, there are several options for travelling via other means, and we find this award-winning travel website very helpful: The Man in Seat 61.

Transport to and from Airports/Train Stations

If you are wanting to travel from the airport or train station to the centre by taxi, Yoga in Salento are happy to arrange transfers. Alternatively, they will provide information about local bus and train travel from airports. Zollino train station is only 5 minutes walk from Yoga in Salento.

 

What to bring

Bedding and towels are provided, you can rent an additional towel for using around the pool. Do bring your own toiletries and also a notebook and a pen.
