Joey is offering an weekend retreat at our cosy home studio near Hebden Bridge. Our well-equipped studio accommodates just 12 students at a time, which will allow Joey more time to spend with each student.
The weekend will consist of daily meditation followed by Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga practice in the mornings. In the afternoons there will be workshops which will be a mixture of alignment technique and supported restorative poses. These sessions may also include contemplation exercises, self-reflection and journalling.
9am – meditation and settling
9:30 – mysore-style practice
11:30 ish – lunch break

This retreat is open to commited Ashtanga students who have been practicing for a minimum of one year and who maintain a regular practice. You must be confident practicing the Primary Series up to Marichyasana A with knowledge of the order of the poses and transitions between them. Students who are modifying their practice due to health reasons are very welcome.
We have plenty of props here, but feel free to bring your own mat or props if you prefer. Do bring a notebook and pen in case any sessions do involve reflection exercises. It’s a good idea to bring lunch with you as shops and cafes aren’t that near and it’ll make for a more restful lunch break.
There are many airbnbs and other self-catering rental options around the valley. If you’re here with a car, Sowerby Bridge, Luddenden, Mytholmroyd, Todmorden, Cragg Vale are all within around 20 minute drive of our house in Brearley. There are also B&Bs such as the Hebden Townhouse. If you prefer a hotel, nearby Halifax is the best place to look.
For a cheaper option, the recently refurbished Hebden Bridge Hostel has a variety of different rooms, ranging from £25-£60 per night – (if you arrange to stay with friends in a 6-bed dorm it works out even cheaper than £25 per night). If you are having any trouble finding accommodation, do get in touch with us.
If you’re interested in sharing accommodation with other students, we’re happy to put you in touch with each other.

We live in an old textile mill in the Calder Valley, a 5-minute drive from market town Hebden Bridge, in little village called Brearley. Our address is:
9 Stoney Springs Mill,
Burnley Road,
Brearley,
HX2 6DH
Use the above postcode for your satnav. Ours is an easy turning to miss on a 40mph stretch of road between Luddendenfoot (at the bottom of a hill) and Mytholmroyd. If you’re coming from Halifax, driving along the Burnley Road, we’re at the top of the hill on the left once you’ve left Luddendenfoot, before you reach the dilapidated white pub ‘The Grove’. If you’re coming from Mytholmroyd, we’re past all the industrial units and the children’s park and it’s a right hand turn.
Our house is just off the main road and so is easily accessible by buses 590 and 592. To get from Hebden Bridge to our house on the bus takes less than ten minutes and from Mytholmroyd it is less than five minutes. During the week these buses are quite frequent – approximately every 15 minutes. Get off at Brearley (it’s between Mytholmroyd and Luddendenfoot).
Mytholmroyd train station is around a 25 minute walk from our house. From Mytholmroyd you can walk from along the woodland cycle path which is accessible instantly as you exit platform 1. Directions: turn left along the woodland path and follow it along until you go over a large green metal railway bridge (after walking for 15 -20 minutes from the station), keep going for another 3-5 minutes until you reach a crossroads. Turn left at the crossroads over the bridge which crosses the river and follow the road upwards towards the main road.
There will be a small park on your right hand side, take the path through the park and follow it right to the end. If you are happy to walk through the field – a little uneven and can be muddy in Winter – then walk along the path through the field to the mill where we live. Otherwise, walk up the paved slope to where the bus stop is on the main road and walk along the pavement to get to the the mill.
Hebden Bridge train station is around a 50-minute walk and the train station is just a minute away from the canal and the cycle path.
To take the cycle path, turn right out of the station, at the bottom of the hill go straight and follow signs for route 66. Once you get to Mytholmroyd Train Station follow instructions above for Mytholmroyd.
To take the canal, turn left out of the station and walk towards the main road, a path to the canal will be on your right within a couple of minutes walk from the station. Follow the path until bridge number 8. At bridge number 8, walk up the steep hill and turn left at the top, you’ll find a park on your right. See directions under Mytholmroyd heading for directions from the park.
The teaching is offered on a sliding scale from £95-125, please pay according to your means. We prefer to have either a deposit of £50 or the full payment within 1 week of booking. The full amount is due one month before the retreat.
